Experiencing Imposter Syndrome?
Here are 3 ways to overcome it:
Stop lying to yourself.
You don’t have imposter syndrome, you just don’t have enough proof to support who you say you are — Alex Hormozi
All of us experience imposter syndrome at different stages in our lives
While starting a new job, making a career switch or when building a business.
Over the past few years I have experienced imposter syndrome many times like..
Why would people listen to me?
Why would someone buy from me?
This is so common, who would want to learn this?
I have no experience, what business would I even start?
And I know a lot of other people face the same doubts and questions because these are the questions I get asked most often.
So in this newsletter, I’ll share 3 ideas I have learned over the past few years that will help you overcome your imposter syndrome.
1. Stack Proof
You don’t have imposter syndrome, you just don’t have enough proof to support who you say you are — Alex Hormozi
This quote by Alex Hormozi was a real eye opener for me.
I had never before thought of imposted syndrome as just lack of proof issue.
But when he said it, it clicked.
I don’t feel like an imposter when it comes to my high performance coaching business
Why?
Because I have build up years of experience and accomplished a lot as a professional squash player.
Therefore, when I speak and share my knowledge I can do it with confidence and because I know I have the proof to back it up.
So next time when you are starting a business or something new and you feel like an imposter, just ask yourself:
Do I have enough proof to support my belief that what I think should happen will happen?
If the answer is no, then stack more proof until you have enough to support your belief.
Again — you don’t have imposter syndrome, you just don’t have enough proof.
Stack more proof.
2. The Curse of Knowledge Blindness
Knowledge Blindness is when you’ve learned something and it comes so naturally to you, that you cannot imagine other people not knowing it.
You probably know something that you think is “common knowledge” but you’d be surprised how many don’t know about it.
Let me give you an example:
Few weeks ago a friend of mine was looking to start his online business.
We were at a dinner and he asked me if I could help him figure out somethings.
After the dinner we sat for 30 minutes and I helped him:
How to create his niche
What business he should to start
What tools and softwares he needs for the business
After our conversation he told me he was struggling with these questions for last 2 weeks and I just solved it for him in 30 minutes.
In my mind, I was like but this is so simple.
Until I realized I was facing the same challenges few years ago and it’s easy for me now because I have learned it with experience over the years.
The things you think are common, aren’t so common to others — share your knowledge.
And that ties into the next idea.
3. You are ahead of others
Often when you are first starting out you look up to people who are ahead of you in the journey to learn from them.
and this pursuit of gaining knowledge and information quickly turns into imposter syndrome
“Maybe this isn’t for me”
“People are way ahead of me, I’ll never catch up”
Think about it this way: You are also ahead of someone else, just like you are looking up to someone 2-3 years ahead of you. You could be that “someone” for people 2-3 years behind you who are facing the same challenges you once did.
You probably a skill or some knowledge that others wish they had.
You are already qualified enough to build a successful business.
You just need to take action.
I hope these ideas unlocked a new perspective for you to tackle your imposter syndrome.
