Stop Procrastinating
You are NOT a perfectionist
We have all been there.
You get an “amazing” business idea.
You plan and research on it for a few weeks.
Then, months go by and you have made zero progress.
Sounds relatable?
It’s because you are stuck in Analysis Paralysis.
Analysis Paralysis is a cycle where you constantly overthink, over analyze and excessively research about the action you need to take but you never actually take the action.
In this newsletter, I will breakdown the common symptoms of analysis paralysis and give you some action steps to overcome it so you can ACTUALLY make progress in your business.
So let’s get into it.
Symptom 1: Information overload
I have been one of them.
Buying business books, only to never finish reading it.
Listening to podcasts, to feel like you are gaining knowledge.
Watching business videos, to get insights.
If you do any of these, I want you to stop and do this instead.
Action step: Choose ONE book and actually finish it. Then, write down 5-10 key takeaways from that book. If you are listening to a podcast, note down all the key takeaways. If you are watching business videos, only watch relevant ones and take notes as you watch them. It’s not about consuming more information, it’s about retaining the information that matters.
Symptom 2: Endless researching
You top search on Google is:
“How to start an online business”
“What the best business model to start”
But even after countless hours of research, you haven’t started your business yet.
If that’s you, stop and do this instead.
Action step: Stop researching and open a Google doc. Write down your best business idea, then ask yourself these three questions. Do you have knowledge about this business? Does it align with your skills? Is this something you are truly interested in? If the answer to any of those is “Yes”. You have got yourself a winning idea. Now stop researching and start building.
Symptom 3: Perfecting your business plan
You rewrite your business plan every time you come across something new.
But it never seems to be “perfect” so you don’t feel ready to take action.
Action step: Stop overcomplicating your business plan. You just need to identify one type of target customer (your ideal customer), choose one platform where this customer hangs out, get clear on the dream outcome you will help them achieve, and your offer which is how you will help them achieve it. That’s it.
Symptom 4: Niche hoping
You jump from one niche to another, because you heard or saw something negative about your niche on the internet.
Action step: Don’t choose a niche. Create your own. You can do that by identifying your Unique Knowledge. Ask yourself: what is something you are naturally good at, something that doesn’t feel like work to you when you are doing it.
Symptom 5: Waiting for the “Perfect Time”
You tell yourself that you will start when (this thing happens).
But unfortunately, it either never happens or you wait for another “Perfect Time” to occur.
The fact of the matter is..
The “Perfect Time” you have been waiting for is NOW.
The reason is you think the time isn’t right is because you don’t have clarity on what you need to do.
Action step: Open a Google doc, write down your business idea on top. Then list down 3-5 things that you can do to get started on it. Start from the easiest, it could literally be creating a social media page, creating a piece of content, or reaching out to potential a customer. Just break it down into smaller tasks so it’s easy to get started.
My Take
Starting a business can be an overwhelming process. Especially if you have never done it before.
Which is why people get stuck in the Analysis Paralysis phase.
They waste time doing planning and researching because they are too afraid to take action.
Feeling confused and having doubts is just part of the process.
But the reality is that, you need to take action.
Everything will fall in place as you make progress.
Because the truth is..
You don’t make money by planning, researching or brainstorming.
You need direction, clarity and action to make that happen.
Now go close this email and take action to make progress in your business.
That’s all from me today.
P.S. I’m announcing something exciting on Thursday. If you want early details about it reply to this email I’ll share them with you.
